Tivo, Inc., was incorporated on August 4, 1997 as Teleworld, Inc. The Company develops and provides software, technology, in-home, and outside-of-the-home cloud-based video solutions for DVRs, non-DVR set-top boxes, tablets, smartphones, and other consumer electronics. It offers subscription-based TiVo service, which enhances home entertainment by providing consumers with a way to record, watch, and control live television, as well as to receive videos, pictures, and movies from cable, broadcast, and broadband sources in one interface. It also provides short and long-form interactive video advertising, lead generation, and commerce, as well as second-by-second audience research measurement for the television advertising and research market. The Company distributes the TiVo DVR devices through consumer electronics retailers and through online store at TiVo.com. Further, it provides TiVo service on Set top boxes through agreements with satellite and cable television service providers; and broadcasting companies. The Company generates revenues from the consumer services, Television Service Providers, media services as well as licensing arrangements. As of January 31, 2013, there were approximately 3.1 million subscriptions to the TiVo service through its TiVo-Owned and MSO businesses.
